I made this comment in an email chain, so I want to make sure that it is properly public:
While EPW may be ending the year in the black, that is only because there are eight positions, apparently, that are currently not filled. We should take all the money out of the budget currently allocated to the Knox Education Foundation, $1.2 million, and direct that money towards core government functions. Building playgrounds out of the general fund might be nice gesture for a county that has all core government functions fully funded, including a competitive wage paid to county employees. Effectively the commission has prioritized building playgrounds over fully staffing core government functions and paying a competitive wage to law enforcement and other County employees.
