Commissioner Thompson & Legislative Colleagues,
As mentioned during the meeting today, I would like to co-sponsor Commissioner Thompson’s Ordinance (O-26-8-102) and I plan to support its passage while proposing an amendment with a direction from our legislative body to, upon its passage, remove all Flock camera devices and other flock surveillance tools within 30 days, and keep the “real-time crime center” (ARC) closed until such a time when the new Sheriff decides to come back to the County Commission with a data-driven presentation and transparent operating and financial plan for instituting new surveillance systems to enhance public safety.
I am aware that if this ordinance and amendment passes, it will require a second reading in September and I will no longer be a Commissioner with a vote. Even as that’s the case, I encourage you to seriously consider your support for both items and carry it forward through both votes and implementation.
I will work with the law department on the proper and legal form language and post it as soon as possible.
– Commissioner Larsen Jay
